Our Holme Festival: Reducing plastic waste in our rivers

Reducing the impact of plastic waste on the water environment By Mr Rob Casey, Thames Warden, Water Conservators Company In this no-holds-barred look at the impact plastic waste has on our water environments, Rob Casey reveals the uncomfortable truth behind some of our modern-day habits. He puts forward an incredibly persuasive case for drinking tap water as opposed to bottled water, including: The real cost of bottled water to you and the planet. The truth behind the health myths of bottled water. Whether the health risks of tap water are really true. Rob also takes a look at our sewer system and the (literally) growing problem of wet wipe-fuelled ‘fatbergs’. So-called flushable wipes are gathering fats and accumulating in monster masses beneath our feet, blocking sewers and with some wet wipes getting into our river systems via overflows and flooding.
