Our Holme Festival: Saving the planet in the hills above Huddersfield

Saving the planet in the hills above Huddersfield By Chris Dean, Head of Programme Delivery, Moors for the Future Partnership The moorland above Huddersfield provides a dramatic backdrop to the town, yet its roots in this upland landscape run far deeper. Huddersfield and other towns of the Northern Powerhouse have a long and intrinsic association with the moors. For centuries, we’ve relied on the winds and rains of this landscape to provide us with clean air, drinking water and much more. In good condition, the moorland environment has the potential to reduce the risk of flooding and can make a massive contribution in removing carbon dioxide from the air we breathe. One of the easiest things we can do to benefit both the planet and people is to restore the blanket bog landscape of Huddersfield into good ecological condition. Let’s just get on and do it!  Interested in more Our Holme talks? This talk is part of the Our Holme River Festival.
